Bindukumari Praja, a mother of two, faced immense hardships after the passing of her husband under suspicious circumstances. As the primary earner in her household, she struggled to provide for her family while residing in a vulnerable house in Manhari-4, Makwanpur District, Nepal. The poor condition of her home exposed her and her children to dangers from wind, rain, and insects. Financial constraints prevented her from relocating or improving her living conditions, forcing her to take up work as a laborer to make ends meet. She also received a government allowance for single women, but it was insufficient to secure a stable life for her family.
Recognizing the urgent need to enhance Bindukumari’s living conditions and financial security, Tukee Foundation identified her as an eligible beneficiary through a baseline survey. The goal was to provide her with a safe and secure home and equip her with skills to improve her livelihood. However, acquiring permission and securing funds for the construction posed significant challenges, especially due to the rough terrain and other unforeseen circumstances. Ensuring her active participation and support throughout the project’s success.
Despite the difficulties, Bindukumari remained highly enthusiastic and determined to improve her family’s living standards. She actively collaborated with Tukee Foundation and provided her full support in overcoming logistical and administrative hurdles. Her dedication and perseverance played a vital role in the smooth execution of the project. Through combined efforts, the foundation successfully built a safe home for her and provided her with a skill set that empowered her to secure a better future.
Today, Bindukumari and her children have a secure shelter, significantly improving their quality of life. She has gained a skill that allows her to become more self-sufficient and independent. Her story is a testament to resilience and determination, showcasing how support and opportunities can lead to transformative change. With a newfound sense of stability, she can now focus on providing a better future for her children, marking a significant milestone in her journey towards empowerment and self-reliance
Her journey is not just one of survival—it’s a shining example of resilience, empowerment, and hope.
“Now, I don’t fear the rain or the nights. My children are safe, and I feel strong. Thank you for giving me a chance to rebuild my life.” – Bindukumari Praja
